"I have taken most of my dogs to her camp and training classes because her help has been invaluable in curing behavior problems and in training dogs. In fact, I had a friend over this past weekend who could not believe how well the dogs behaved and listened." - Patricia Martin
"One of our pets was diabetic. She required 2 insulin shots a day, to be administered on a set schedule. Only Mrs. Hodge could guarantee that. We never had to be concerned about the care our pets were receiving." - Doug and Janet Temple
To Richmond News Leaders:When I was a little girl, I wanted a dog more than anything in the world. I would take my goldfish for walks around the block in their bowl, I would tie strings around my stuffed animal dogs, and I would ask for a puppy every chance I got. My mother would always reply the same way, "when you grow up and get married and have a house of your own, you can get a dog." No sooner than a month after my husband and I were married, we got a 1 lb, 8 oz Yorkshire Terrier, named Jack. We got Jack home and immediately made him our baby. He went everywhere with us. He had no intention of being left behind. He was our hairy, little baby who we coddled and cooed over and bent over backwards to make happy... without him doing anything for us, but being cute. I think he was about a year old before we got him to go potty outside. He didn't want to go outside, after all, we didn't go outside. He thought he was just like us... that we were all on the same level. Then slowly but surely, he worked himself up the ladder- and became our pack leader.Jack is seven years old and his world was turned upside down in January of 2006. We brought home his human brother and he was no longer the center of attention. We continued to give him lots of attention, and we tried to make him feel part of all the feedings, playtime, diaper changes, you name it... Jack was right there beside us. We started to notice the anxieties that were kind of cute in the past; like being afraid of the vacuum, frantically running out of the door to get to us, or barking to get someone to notice how cute he was, just wasn't so cute anymore. He was unhappy. He was insecure. He was tired and needed some help. We thought that he was potentially untrainable because he was quite stubborn and tenacious. We thought that we had allowed this behavior to escalate over the past seven years, and that it was too late for him to change. Then we met Jemi Hodge. She sat with us and discussed Jack's behaviors. She validated what we had tried in the past to resolve some of these issues. She was encouraging and delightfully optimistic that Jack was going to get the guidance and training from me and my husband that he needed to become happy again. She turned us into pack leaders for our Yorkie. A job that I had nearly given up on. Jemi modeled positive discipline techniques and exercises that could reprogram Jack's way of thinking and seeing his role in the family. Within the first hour, my eyes filled with tears, as I saw my little Jack calm, relaxed, submissive, and happy for the first time in a very long time. She revealed to us the dog that Jack was meant to be... a dog that has boundaries and unconditional love, all at the same time. I thought this could only take place in a perfect world, but Jack is getting the opportunity to live in his perfect world, with his Mommy and Daddy who loved him so much, that we seeked the professionalism, dedication, and experience of Jemi Hodge.Sincerely,Kelly Menasco
